Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use Zeitgeist when you need blockchain infrastructure for prediction markets or futarchy, or when evaluating its documented standalone and parachain node build paths.

Who it is for

  • Developers building or evaluating prediction-market infrastructure.
  • Teams exploring market-based on-chain governance through futarchy.
  • Operators who need to build a standalone testing node or a parachain node.

Documented uses

  • Create and resolve prediction markets.
  • Support trading through order-book, market-maker or swap modules.
  • Design governance mechanisms that use prediction markets.
  • Build a standalone node for testing or a parachain node.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

  • The repository documents two node flavors: standalone execution and parachain integration.
  • The standalone build uses the Battery Station testnet runtime and runs in development mode by default.
  • The parachain build connects to the Zeitgeist main network by default; a separate command selects Battery Station on Rococo.
  • The listed modules include several market mechanisms and multiple dispute-resolution paths.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Build a standalone Zeitgeist node

Build the documented standalone node for testing.

Before you start

  • The Zeitgeist repository.
  • Rust's Cargo build tool.

Steps

  1. Open a terminal in the top directory of the repository.

  2. Run the command below.

    Documented command
    cargo build --release

Expected outcome

A standalone node binary built with the Battery Station testnet runtime; the standalone version runs in development mode by default.

Guide limitations

  • This is the standalone testing version, not the parachain build.
Source-based practical guide

Build the Zeitgeist parachain node

Build the parachain version, which connects to the Zeitgeist main network by default.

Before you start

  • The Zeitgeist repository.
  • Rust's Cargo build tool.

Steps

  1. Open a terminal in the top directory of the repository.

  2. Run the command below.

    Documented command
    cargo build --features parachain --release

Expected outcome

The parachain node build, configured by default to connect to the Zeitgeist main network.

Guide limitations

  • The repository gives a separate command for connecting to Battery Station on Rococo; the main-network default is not that testnet.
