About the service
OpenViST provides technical project profiles, recipe examples and Journal articles for general information and discovery. The project is currently operated by Ionut Popovici in Luxembourg and does not presently offer paid placement, advertising or premium subscriptions.
Accounts and acceptable use
You must provide accurate information where an account or verification process requests it. Do not impersonate another person or organisation, submit deceptive evidence, interfere with the service, scrape it in a way that degrades availability, bypass access controls, introduce harmful code or use claim and reporting tools to harass others.
Listings, representation and corrections
A listing describes a third-party project, tool or application; it does not belong to the listed organisation or to a claimant. Technical verification checks website control or access to the listed repository; it does not establish legal ownership or organizational authority. Representation requests require review. An approved representative may suggest eligible factual changes, but OpenViST retains control of classification, presentation and independent editorial content. Claims and corrections may be accepted, rejected or returned for more evidence.
Third-party websites
Links lead to independent services with their own terms, prices, risks and privacy practices. You are responsible for evaluating them before creating an account, paying, downloading software or relying on information.
Journal text licence
From 16 October 2026, OpenViST makes its original editorial text in existing and future Journal articles available under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0), except where a specific notice states otherwise. You may copy, redistribute, translate and adapt that text, including commercially, with appropriate credit, a link to the original article and the licence, and an indication of changes. This grant covers only rights OpenViST is entitled to license; it does not cover third-party material, quotations, photographs, illustrations, screenshots, logos or trademarks unless separately stated. Recipe code and software keep their own licences.
See Journal reuse and attribution examples for practical instructions. Permissions already granted under CC BY 4.0 cannot be revoked while its conditions are followed.
Content and reuse
OpenViST’s original text, design and software remain protected by applicable rights unless a specific licence says otherwise. Website names, logos and third-party material belong to their respective owners. Public data releases state their scope and reuse terms on the Open Data page.
Browser Tools
Tools are free browser utilities with documented input, processing and output limits. Review results before relying on them. Structural validation or a comparison report does not establish security, legal compliance, search-engine indexing or suitability for a particular workflow. Open-source code is governed by the licence included with the relevant files.
Availability and liability
OpenViST aims to provide useful, evidence-aware information but cannot promise uninterrupted availability or that every record is complete or current. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Changes and law
These terms may change as the service develops. Luxembourg law applies, without removing any mandatory protection that applies to a user under their local law. Questions may be sent through Contact OpenViST.
Learn lessons
Learn provides free educational material. Reading lessons does not require an account. Review commands before running them: they may create files, install software or affect the environment you choose. External hosting and other third-party services can have their own charges and terms. Lesson text is not automatically covered by the Journal CC BY 4.0 licence. Follow the licence and attribution notices accompanying each code download; recipe scripts retain their own applicable licences.
Hosted website audits
Link Auditor requires an account and verification of control of the exact website hostname. Audit only websites you manage or are authorised to audit. The hosted beta has the limits and availability stated on its page. Unchecked URLs are not failures; an HTTP response does not establish content correctness, security or search-engine indexability. Self-hosted execution uses your own infrastructure and configuration.
Recipe reuse
Original recipe scripts use the MIT licence shown with their downloads; keep its notice with copies. Adapted examples retain their documented upstream attribution and applicable licence notices. Check the specific script before reuse. Plugin source uses GPL-2.0-or-later. Check each recipe’s requirements, sources and recorded test scope before running it in your own environment. Public visitors can download and adjust published examples; assisted creation of new library drafts is reserved for OpenViST administrators.
