Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when a coding agent needs a staged, evidence-based workflow for rebuilding a website and checking where the result differs from the source.
Who it is for
- Developers using a coding agent to reproduce a website in a separate project.
- Teams that want a traceable snapshot and a recorded comparison of a website rebuild.
- Developers working with supported Agent Skills runtimes such as Claude Code or Codex.
Documented uses
- Capture a target website and its referenced files as a read-only snapshot.
- Use minified source code to reconstruct site behavior in a separate project.
- Compare source and rebuild across console, network, DOM, geometry, and pixel output.
- Organize a completed port into a more readable source project while retaining comparison checks.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and MIT-licensed. Installation is documented through npx or manual copying of the skill directory.
- The target is assessed before work begins, and suitability depends on that assessment.
- Node.js 22 or later is a prerequisite; Chrome or Chromium is listed for headless comparisons.
- The README distinguishes three levels: read-only mirror archive, engineered reconstruction, and source organization.
- The workflow keeps captured evidence separate from the rebuild and records differences rather than silently treating them as equivalent.
- The skill does not make deployment or public-release decisions for the user.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install the skill by copying its directory
Place the Website Rebuild Skill files in an agent runtime’s skills directory.
Before you start
- Node.js 22 or later is listed as a project prerequisite.
- An agent runtime that supports Agent Skills.
- The skill directory from the repository, or access to the npx installer.
Steps
Use npx website-rebuild-skill to install to the default Claude skills location, or use --project or --dir to select a destination.
Alternatively, copy skills/website-rebuild/ into the runtime’s skills directory; the README gives ~/.claude/skills/website-rebuild as a Claude Code example.
For another Agent Skills-compatible runtime, place the same directory according to that runtime’s directory convention.
Expected outcome
The skill files are placed in the chosen skills directory for use by the agent.
Guide limitations
- The installation step copies files; it does not run the skill or open a browser.
- The README lists Chrome or Chromium for later headless comparisons and npx for certain workflow stages.
- The guide describes installation only, not a completed reconstruction.

These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
| Project | Documented purpose | Platform | Access and requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| Website Rebuild Skill | Capture a target website and its referenced files as a read-only snapshot. | The repository is public and MIT-licensed. Installation is documented through npx or manual copying of the skill directory. | |
| Spectra | Clarify requirements and compare approaches before proposing a change. | CLI, Desktop | The README lists a macOS and Windows desktop app, and a Homebrew installation for macOS. The CLI is published through npm and requires Node.js 22.14 or newer. |
| Skills — michaelshimeles | Install reusable task-specific skills into a coding-agent setup. | CLI | The repository README provides an npx installation command for most coding agents and describes automatic or explicit skill invocation in Claude Code. |
