Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when recurring coding work depends on repository knowledge or engineering lessons that would otherwise need to be reintroduced to an agent in each session.
Who it is for
- Developers who use supported AI coding assistants and want them to retain repository context between sessions.
- Teams or individuals who want agents to recall engineering decisions, prior failed attempts, repository rules and working preferences.
Documented uses
- Carry repository architecture and conventions into a later coding session.
- Preserve lessons and decisions from completed engineering work.
- Build and retrieve repository memory, including recent issue, pull request and commit context.
- Share a memory layer across supported coding-agent tools.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public under the MIT license. Setup supports a MemoraX account and a separate 90-day guest mode. The package requires Node.js 20 or newer, while DeepSeek Harness has additional version-specific requirements.
- The documented integrations cover Codex, Claude Code, CodeBuddy CLI, WorkBuddy, DeepSeek Harness, OpenCode, Trae and Cursor.
- Memory search and writeback require network access.
- Remote SSH, WSL and Dev Container users should install the tool in the same environment as their coding agent.
- On Linux, guest credentials require libsecret's
/usr/bin/secret-tooland an available Secret Service. - To keep guest memory when registering later, obtain a Mark ID before registration.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install and connect Memorax Code
Install the package and configure it for a supported coding agent.
Before you start
- Node.js 20 or newer.
- At least one supported coding agent.
- A normal interactive terminal.
- A MemoraX username and API key for the existing-account setup path.
Steps
Install the package globally with the command below.
npm install -g @memorax/memorax-codeRun
memorax-code setup --existing-accountin an interactive terminal.Enter the MemoraX username and API key when prompted.
Restart or refresh detected coding agents; enable the MemoraX Code Codex Adapter in Codex if it is not already enabled.
Expected outcome
The package is installed and configured for a detected supported coding agent.
Guide limitations
- Installing the package does not launch setup automatically.
- On Remote SSH, WSL or Dev Containers, install in the same environment as the coding agent.
- Search and writeback require network access.
Try cross-session memory in an example repository
Use the documented prompts to save an engineering lesson and request it in a later session.
Before you start
- Memorax Code set up with a supported coding agent.
- Git and a terminal.
Steps
Clone
https://github.com/SWE-agent/test-repo.gitand change into thetest-repodirectory.Open a supported coding agent in the project directory.
In one session, ask the agent to use the Memorax Code skill to build Repo Memory, review a recent issue, and remember an engineering lesson.
Start a new session in the same repository and ask the agent to recall the earlier lesson and suggest what to check.
Expected outcome
The agent can retrieve the saved lesson in a subsequent session and use it to suggest checks for the repository.
Guide limitations
- The README presents this prompt sequence as a quick verification example; the skill can also capture relevant memory in the background during normal use.
Compare options for AI coding assistance
These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
| Project | Documented purpose | Platform | Access and requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| Memorax Code | Carry repository architecture and conventions into a later coding session. | CLI | The repository is public under the MIT license. Setup supports a MemoraX account and a separate 90-day guest mode. The package requires Node.js 20 or newer, while DeepSeek Harness has additional version-specific requirements. |
| Continuum — pouyahasanamreji | Store project lessons so coding agents can retrieve them across conversations. | CLI, Self-hosted, Server | The repository documents local Docker Compose and bare-metal development setups. Bare-metal startup requires Node 22.12.0 or later and pnpm 10.33 or later; the Compose path skips these host prerequisites. |
| Haft | Record the problem a project is solving and the options considered. | CLI, Self-hosted |
