Agtx

Agtx is a Rust command-line environment that coordinates coding agents through a shared task board, per-task tmux sessions and configurable workflow phases. It supports parallel task delegation and model handoffs, with a terminal interface for managing tasks across projects.

Practical overview

When it fits

Use Agtx when coding-agent work needs a shared task board, parallel delegation or handoffs between models. It is suited to workflows where developers want to follow agent sessions and task diffs without leaving the terminal.

Who it is for

  • Developers who want to coordinate multiple coding-agent tasks from a terminal board.
  • Teams or individual developers assigning different coding models to research, implementation and review phases.
  • Terminal-based developers who want to inspect agent sessions, task progress and git diffs in one interface.

Documented uses

  • Create detailed coding tasks and track them through workflow stages.
  • Delegate work to multiple coding agents running in parallel.
  • Hand work between models with context awareness across phases.
  • Review live agent output and inspect a task's git diff.
  • Manage agent sessions across multiple projects from one terminal interface.

Requirements & limits

Agtx is an open-source CLI project licensed under Apache-2.0. Its documented installation uses a shell installer; tmux is required for agent sessions. The GitHub CLI is optional for pull-request operations.

  • Agent sessions run in dedicated tmux windows, so tmux is a core prerequisite for that workflow.
  • Different agents can be configured by workflow phase, with automatic switching and context handover.
  • The void plugin is documented for human-controlled session management without spec-driven skill execution or orchestration.
  • The mobile board is served from the terminal and paired by QR; the orchestrator feature is experimental.
  • Agtx is written in Rust and uses an Apache-2.0 license.

Source-based practical guide

Install Agtx and open a project board

Install Agtx with the documented shell installer and start it from a Git repository.

Before you start

  • A Git repository to work in.
  • tmux for agent sessions.

Steps

  1. Run the installer: the command below.

    Documented command
    curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/fynnfluegge/agtx/main/install.sh | bash
  2. Change into the project repository and run agtx.

  3. Add .agtx/ to the project’s .gitignore to avoid committing worktrees and local task data.

Expected outcome

Agtx opens its terminal board in the selected repository.

Guide limitations

  • The repository documents tmux as required for agent sessions.
  • The GitHub CLI is optional and is used for pull-request operations.

Create and manage a board task

Add a task prompt to the board and use its documented controls to follow the task.

Before you start

  • Agtx running in a project repository.
  • A coding agent configured at project level in config.toml.

Steps

  1. Press o to open the task creation wizard.

  2. Enter a short task title, select a workflow plugin if prompted, and write a detailed task description.

  3. Use # or @ to search for and insert a file path, / for an agent skill or command, or ! for another task reference.

  4. Open the task to view its agent session; use d to show the git diff.

Expected outcome

The board contains a task with its prompt and references, and the task view provides access to the agent session and diff.

Guide limitations

  • The agent is configured at the project level, not per task.
  • This guide covers task creation and board controls; it does not prescribe how to configure or authenticate a coding agent.
