Practical overview
When it fits
Use the plugin when your reverse-engineering work is already in Ghidra and you want to draw on RevEng.AI analysis and binary-code similarity to investigate functions, especially in stripped binaries.
Who it is for
- Reverse engineers investigating stripped binaries in Ghidra
- Analysts who want to review similarity-based function-name suggestions
- Ghidra users who need to synchronize analysis names, signatures or data types with the RevEng.AI portal
Documented uses
- Submit an open binary for RevEng.AI analysis or attach to an existing portal analysis.
- Find similar functions and review suggested names before renaming one function or processing functions in batch.
- Compare a selected function with similar matches in a dedicated window.
- Get natural-language function explanations through AI Decompilation.
- Ask Agent Chat about the current binary and request help renaming or re-typing functions.
Requirements & limits
The plugin requires an API key from the RevEng.AI Portal for configuration. The repository identifies the software as open source under GPL-3.0.
- The documented supported Ghidra baseline is version 11.4 or later compatible with Java 21.
- All five listed plugins must be enabled; the API and logging components support the three feature plugins.
- The analysis workflow uploads the currently open binary to RevEng.AI.
- Function matches are presented for review before a suggested name is applied.
- Custom Ghidra forks or versions may require building the extension against the local installation.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install and enable the plugin in Ghidra
Load the release ZIP and enable the plugin components required for its features.
Before you start
- Ghidra compatible with version 11.4 or later, based on Java 21
- The plugin ZIP from the GitHub Releases page
Steps
In Ghidra, open File → Install Extensions.
Select the green plus icon and choose the downloaded ZIP.
Confirm the installation and restart Ghidra when prompted.
Open File → Configure, select Configure under the RevEng.AI plugin group, and enable AgentChatPlugin, AnalysisManagementPlugin, BinarySimilarityPlugin, LoggingPlugin and ReaiAPIServicePlugin.
Expected outcome
The plugin components are loaded and enabled in Ghidra.
Guide limitations
- The API and logging service plugins are required by the three feature plugins.
- For custom Ghidra forks or versions such as nightly builds, the README says to build the plugin against that installation.
Configure an API key and submit an open binary for analysis
Set the plugin's API connection and start a RevEng.AI analysis for a binary open in Ghidra.
Before you start
- The plugin installed and enabled in Ghidra
- An API key from the RevEng.AI Portal
- A binary imported and open in Ghidra
Steps
Open RevEng.AI → Configure and follow the configuration prompts.
Enter the API key from the RevEng.AI Portal and configure the host.
With the binary open, select RevEng.AI → Analysis → Create New.
Use the default options or select a specific architecture, then check progress through RevEng.AI → Analysis → Check status.
Expected outcome
A new analysis is submitted for the open binary, and its status can be checked from the RevEng.AI menu.
Guide limitations
- The documented workflow requires an API key.
- The README describes analysis submission and status checking; this guide does not cover a complete analysis or matching workflow.
