Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when you are analyzing a binary in a supported IDA Pro and Python setup and want to connect that session to RevEng.AI for analysis or function-similarity work.
Who it is for
- Reverse engineers working in IDA Pro who want RevEng.AI analysis within that workflow.
- Analysts who need to compare functions with a database and review suggested function names.
- Users seeking AI-generated decompilation or the plugin’s experimental agent chat.
Documented uses
- Upload the current IDA binary to RevEng.AI for analysis.
- Find similar functions and review suggested names for an individual function or a batch.
- Recover function names with Auto Unstrip or confidence-threshold renaming.
- Request AI-generated decompilation of selected functions.
- Experiment with agent chat to ask about a function and have an agent decompile, rename or navigate the binary.
Requirements & limits
The plugin requires a RevEng.AI API key and host to be configured. The README directs users to the RevEng.AI Portal for the API key.
- Supported IDA versions are 8.5, 9.0, 9.1 and 9.2; supported Python versions are 3.10–3.14.
- PyQt5 is a stated package requirement.
- Function matching returns up to 10 results for one function and at most one result when matching multiple functions.
- Suggested function names can be reviewed before they are applied.
- Agent Chat is explicitly marked experimental.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install and configure the plugin in IDA Pro
Place the plugin in IDA’s user plugin directory and configure its RevEng.AI connection.
Before you start
- IDA Pro 8.5, 9.0, 9.1 or 9.2
- Python 3.10–3.14
- PyQt5
- A plugin release build for the relevant platform and Python version
- A RevEng.AI API key and host
Steps
Download the plugin build for your platform and Python version from the GitHub Releases page.
Extract the archive contents into IDA’s user plugin directory; the README lists typical paths for macOS/Linux and Windows.
Restart IDA if it was already running, then confirm that the RevEng.AI menu appears.
Open the plugin’s configuration on first load or through RevEng.AI → Configure, then enter the API key and host.
Expected outcome
The plugin is installed in IDA and configured to connect to RevEng.AI.
Guide limitations
- PyQt5 must be installed separately.
- The API key is obtained from the RevEng.AI Portal; the plugin README does not specify account or pricing terms.
Submit the current binary for analysis
Start a RevEng.AI analysis of the binary open in IDA and check its status.
Before you start
- The plugin is installed and configured with a RevEng.AI API key and host.
- A binary is open in IDA Pro.
Steps
In IDA, select RevEng.AI → Analysis → Create New.
Keep the default analysis options or adjust them as needed.
Check progress through RevEng.AI → Analysis → Check Status; starting an analysis also begins automatic status polling.
Expected outcome
The current binary is uploaded for analysis, and the analysis status can be checked in IDA.
Guide limitations
- The workflow sends the current binary to RevEng.AI for analysis.
- This guide covers starting and checking analysis, not interpreting particular results.
