Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when conversation content is ready and the next task is producing a structured PDF report. The repository's example code is the documented starting point for report generation.
Who it is for
- Developers building report-generation workflows from AI conversations
- Teams that want to format model-generated material as research or internal reports
Documented uses
- Convert structured AI conversations into PDF reports.
- Organize conversation content into an executive summary and formatted sections.
- Include tables and figures in a generated report.
- Configure report generation to use a listed GPT or Claude model.
Requirements & limits
The project is publicly available on GitHub under the Apache 2.0 license. Setup requires Python 3.10 or later to run without code changes, installed dependencies and a provider API key for the selected model.
- The input is expected to be a structured conversation, not an arbitrary research prompt.
- The README documents GPT and Claude model choices and corresponding environment-variable configuration.
- The described PDF length is around 9–15 pages and depends on the number of messages.
- Report generation is shown through the repository's
main.pyexample; the README does not give a complete standalone command.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up Reportai for a model provider
Prepare the Python project and configure an OpenAI GPT or Anthropic Claude model.
Before you start
- Python 3.10 or later to run without code changes
- Git and pip
- An API key for the provider you choose
Steps
Clone the repository and change into its directory.
Install dependencies with the command below.
pip install -r requirements.txtCreate a
.envfile insidereport_aiand set the relevant provider API key,LLMchoice (gptorclaude), and a supported model name.Refer to
main.pyfor the documented example of report generation from conversations.
Expected outcome
The project and provider configuration are prepared; the README points to `main.py` for the next stage of using conversations to generate reports.
Guide limitations
- The setup instructions do not document the full contents of
main.pyor a complete report-generation command. - The README's listed model values are GPT:
gpt-3.5-turbo,gpt-4-turbo,gpt-4o; Claude:claude-3-haiku,claude-3-opus. - An API key for the selected provider is required by the documented configuration.
