Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when you can run a server-side service and need account-specific monitoring, Slack notifications or historical balance views for Solana accounts.
Who it is for
- Teams monitoring mission-critical Solana token or native SOL accounts.
- Operators tracking program accounts for deployments.
- Teams that want Slack notifications and a Grafana view of historical balances.
Documented uses
- Monitor selected Solana accounts at a configured polling interval.
- Set an allowed balance-change threshold and time period for vault accounts.
- Receive Slack notifications about balance changes and program deployments.
- Review historical account balances in Grafana.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and identifies the project as MIT-licensed. The documented deployment uses Docker Compose on a server; the README also describes a binary option with a custom PostgreSQL instance.
- Configuration requires a Solana RPC endpoint and account public keys in base58 format.
- Balance thresholds and time windows are optional and apply to vault accounts.
- Slack notifications use a Slack hook URL configured through the environment file.
- PostgreSQL stores polls, while Grafana is documented for viewing historical balances.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up Vault Watcher with Docker Compose
Prepare the repository configuration and start the documented Docker containers.
Before you start
- A server for the containerized service
- A Solana RPC endpoint
- Docker Compose
- Account public keys to monitor
Steps
Clone the repository and change into its directory.
Copy _accounts.json to accounts.json, _config.json to config.json, and _.env to .env.
Edit accounts.json and config.json with the accounts and Solana RPC settings; optionally edit .env for environment variables such as the Slack hook URL.
Run sudo docker-compose build, then sudo docker-compose up.
Expected outcome
The containers are started; the README says a Grafana dashboard is available at http://localhost:3000 by default, with PostgreSQL available for balance history.
Guide limitations
- The guide documents starting the containers, not verification of alerts or monitoring results.
- The README describes a custom PostgreSQL instance as an alternative when running the service directly as a binary.
