Practical overview

When it fits

Use Voltaire when an ERC-4337 development or infrastructure workflow needs a bundler, especially when choosing between a hosted development endpoint, a self-managed Docker service, or a local Python setup.

Who it is for

  • Ethereum developers building applications that use ERC-4337 account abstraction.
  • Infrastructure operators who want to deploy and configure a bundler service.
  • Developers investigating bundler behavior or its Rust P2P component.

Documented uses

  • Connect an account-abstraction application to a hosted bundler endpoint for development.
  • Deploy a self-managed bundler using a Docker image and configured Ethereum node connection.
  • Run the bundler in a local Ubuntu development environment with Geth.
  • Build the Rust P2P component for development.

Requirements & limits

The repository is public and identifies the project as LGPL-3.0 licensed. It points to public hosted endpoints for development and documents Docker and Python-based use.

  • The documented local development path is for Ubuntu and specifies Python 3.11, Poetry, Docker, and a Geth development node.
  • Self-managed Docker deployment requires a bundler secret, RPC address and port, Ethereum node URL, and chain ID.
  • The shown Docker command includes --disable_p2p; P2P development is described separately with Rust build prerequisites.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Set up Voltaire for local Ubuntu development

Prepare the documented local development environment and start the bundler against a Geth development node.

Before you start

  • Ubuntu
  • Python 3.11
  • Poetry
  • Docker
  • The repository's scripts and environment values

Steps

  1. Install Poetry, install the project dependencies with poetry install, and select Python 3.11 using poetry env use python3.11.

  2. Install Docker and complete the documented Linux post-install steps.

  3. Start the documented Geth development node, then deploy the EntryPoint and fund the signer in another terminal.

  4. Load the environment values with source scripts/init-params and start the bundler with the documented Poetry command.

Expected outcome

A local Voltaire bundler process started with the configured EntryPoint and chain ID 1337.

Guide limitations

  • These instructions describe a development setup using a local Geth dev node, not deployment to a production network.
  • The repository refers readers to a separate project for bundler specification tests; this guide does not claim those tests were run.
