Practical overview
When it fits
Use Stoffel when developing computations over private data where secret inputs should not be exposed in the clear to any single party, and where you need a compiler-backed workflow with local or distributed MPC execution.
Who it is for
- Developers building programs that compute over private inputs held by multiple parties.
- Rust application developers who want to embed Stoffel compilation, execution or MPC configuration through its SDK.
- Developers integrating the VM from C-compatible environments using its public C header and FFI.
Documented uses
- Create Stoffel projects and write programs in `.stfl` source files.
- Check, compile and inspect programs, producing `.stflb` bytecode.
- Run programs locally with supplied inputs or configure execution against network nodes.
- Embed Stoffel functionality in Rust applications or use its C-compatible VM interface.
Requirements & limits
The project is open source under the Apache-2.0 license. The documented CLI installer places the command in `~/.local/bin` by default.
- The CLI works with StoffelLang
.stflsource and.stflbbytecode. - Local CLI execution requires the separate
stoffel-runMPC runner. - Network execution uses SDK network configuration; connecting to real node addresses requires network configuration.
- The repository includes Rust SDK and C FFI components in addition to the CLI, language compiler and VM.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install the Stoffel CLI and start a local project
Install the CLI, create a project and run it with local inputs.
Before you start
- A shell environment that can run the documented installer.
- The Stoffel CLI installer also provides the stoffel-run runner needed for local execution.
Steps
Run the command below to install the CLI.
curl -fsSL https://get.stoffelmpc.com | shIf needed, add
$HOME/.local/binto PATH, then runstoffel --help.Run
stoffel init hello-mpcandcd hello-mpc.Run
stoffel run --input a=40 --input b=2.
Expected outcome
A newly created Stoffel project is run locally with the supplied inputs.
Guide limitations
- Local runs require
stoffel-run; the installer places it beside the CLI. For other installation methods, the runner must be available on PATH or supplied using--runnerorSTOFFEL_RUN_BIN. - The example describes a local run, not execution across a distributed network.
