ZK Sql

ZK Sql is open-source infrastructure for generating and verifying zero-knowledge proofs of SQL reads and writes against a committed database table. Its Circom circuits check private table data against a public commitment, then produce public query results for reads or a new commitment for writes, so a verifier need not hold the full table.

Practical overview

When it fits

Consider ZK Sql when a database operator is not trusted to report query results correctly and the documented circuit limits fit the data and conditions involved.

Who it is for

  • Developers building dApp backends that need verifiable database results.
  • Teams exploring smart-contract oracles for on-demand, proof-backed query results.
  • Users and operators evaluating a proof-based service for outsourced SQL data.

Documented uses

  • Prove a SELECT result against a committed table without disclosing the full table to the verifier.
  • Prove INSERT, UPDATE or DELETE operations and expose the resulting table commitment.
  • Verify proofs with client tools or Solidity verifier contracts.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

  • The repository includes separate prover-node, client verification, Solidity verifier and Next.js UI components.
  • Mainnet circuit dimensions and condition counts are limited to 10 rows, 5 columns, 5 AND expressions and 2 OR expressions.
  • Inequality operators are described as possible but disabled in the documented mainnet configuration.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Set up the documented development components

Prepare the repository’s circuits, contracts, prover node and UI for local development.

Before you start

  • Circom 2.0
  • Node.js and yarn
  • make

Steps

  1. Create an .env file in each of the lib, node and ui package directories, using the documented .env.example as a reference.

  2. Install dependencies with yarn install.

  3. Build circuits and contracts with make build.

  4. Start the development node with yarn start-node or the UI with yarn start-ui.

Expected outcome

The documented setup and development-start commands are available for the node and UI components.

Guide limitations

  • These instructions cover development setup and starting components; they do not specify a complete deployment or application-level query workflow.
  • The documented mainnet circuits have limits of 10 rows, 5 columns, 5 AND expressions and 2 OR expressions; inequality operators are disabled.
