Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it when a Solana web dApp needs a standalone wallet-selection interface and callbacks for connection state, rather than building those UI hooks from scratch.

Who it is for

  • Developers building web applications on Solana
  • Teams integrating wallet selection and connection-state handling into a dApp

Documented uses

  • Open a wallet-selection menu from a dApp.
  • React to wallet connection and disconnection changes.
  • Track whether the selection menu is visible.
  • Retrieve the selected wallet adapter for application features.
  • Add wallet adapter choices beyond the default Wallet Standard-supported options.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

  • The default wallet choices are wallets that support Wallet Standard.
  • Additional wallets can be supplied as adapters; the README examples include Solflare and Solana Mobile Wallet Adapter.
  • The documented npm workflow uses JavaScript imports, with TypeScript examples based on Solana wallet-adapter interfaces; an unpkg script-loading example is also provided.
  • The repository lists an MIT license.

Source-based practical guide

Add a wallet menu and connection callbacks

Install Solana Connect, open its wallet menu and handle wallet and menu state changes in a web application.

Before you start

  • A web application using npm
  • The solana-connect package
  • The @solana/wallet-adapter-base Adapter type for the documented TypeScript example

Steps

  1. Install the package with the command below.

    Documented command
    npm install solana-connect
  2. Import SolanaConnect and create an instance.

  3. Call openMenu() to display the wallet-selection menu.

  4. Register onWalletChange to receive a connected adapter or null on disconnection, and use onVisibilityChange to observe whether the menu is open.

  5. Call getWallet() when the application needs the selected adapter.

Expected outcome

The application can display the wallet menu, respond to wallet and menu state changes, and retrieve the current adapter.

Guide limitations

  • By default, wallets supporting Wallet Standard appear; other choices require configured additional adapters.
  • The example documents API usage, not transaction signing or application-specific wallet flows.
