Practical overview
When it fits
Use Solagent when building a Rust-based agent that needs a Solana wallet/RPC connection and a documented plugin integration, such as retrieving token metadata from Birdeye.
Who it is for
- Rust developers creating AI agents that need Solana connectivity.
- Builders seeking plugin integrations for token metadata or other listed Solana-related services.
Documented uses
- Configure an agent with a Solana wallet and RPC endpoint.
- Retrieve token metadata through the Birdeye plugin.
- Select additional plugins for tasks such as price retrieval, token-security data, exchange integration or Solana operations.
Requirements & limits
The GitHub repository is public and lists an Apache-2.0 license.
- The documented quick start uses a wallet from the SOLANA_WALLET environment variable, a Solana RPC endpoint and a Birdeye API key.
- The quick-start metadata example targets Solana devnet.
- Listed integrations are separate tools or plugins; their presence in the package list does not mean every integration is configured by the core crate.
- The README lists plugins for Pyth price retrieval, GoPlus token-security data, Jupiter Exchange, pump.fun token launches and other service integrations.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up a Solana agent for Birdeye token metadata
Configure the README’s Rust example to request and print token metadata through Birdeye.
Before you start
- Rust application with Tokio, as indicated by the async main example.
- The solagent-core, solagent-wallet-solana and solagent-plugin-birdeye crates.
- A wallet available through the SOLANA_WALLET environment variable.
- A Birdeye API key and a Solana RPC endpoint.
Steps
Add solagent-wallet-solana 0.1.4, solagent-core 0.1.6 and solagent-plugin-birdeye 0.1.7 to the Cargo dependencies.
Load the wallet with Wallet::from_env("SOLANA_WALLET") and create the configuration with the Birdeye API key.
Construct SolanaAgentKit with the wallet, an RPC endpoint and the configuration.
Call get_token_metadata with the agent and a token address, then print the returned data as shown in the README.
Expected outcome
The example is configured to request token metadata and print the returned data.
Guide limitations
- The README example uses a Solana devnet RPC URL and a sample token address; it does not document deployment of an agent.
- A Birdeye API key is required by the shown configuration. The guide does not verify that the example executes successfully.
Compare options for Wallet connections
These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
| Project | Documented purpose | Platform | Access and requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solagent | Configure an agent with a Solana wallet and RPC endpoint. | CLI | The GitHub repository is public and lists an Apache-2.0 license. |
| Sam Framework | Build an agent that calls tools and retains context across persistent SQLite-backed sessions. | Linux, macOS, Windows | The project is provided as a publicly accessible GitHub repository. Its README states an MIT license, while the repository metadata supplied here does not list a license. |
