Agent Memory & RAG

Semantix

Semantix is a Go-based semantic agent kernel and command-line coding agent that stores reusable slices from completed sessions, retrieves related context for later tasks, and adds semantic caching, adaptive scheduling, speculative prefetch and cross-session learning. It can run as a complete agent or attach to another agent through documented integration paths.

Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use Semantix when coding work is repeated across sessions and the agent needs project-specific memory, reusable task patterns or more stable provider-cache inputs.

Who it is for

  • Developers using AI coding agents across multiple sessions
  • Teams or individuals building custom or self-hosted agents
  • Builders seeking semantic caching and adaptive scheduling around coding workflows

Documented uses

  • Retain project conventions and task knowledge after a coding session ends
  • Retrieve and inject relevant context for similar later tasks
  • Reuse verified results without a model call through the documented result-reuse layer
  • Improve prompt-cache reuse through stable injection and prefix hygiene
  • Add memory capabilities to Claude Code, custom agents or OpenAI-compatible clients
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

The repository is public, open source under the MIT license, and documents CLI installation for macOS and Linux. The first run requires provider and API-key setup.

  • Choose the complete semantix-agent when a ready-made coding-agent CLI with the memory kernel is appropriate.
  • Use the kernel integration paths when retaining an existing agent is more useful: Claude Code skill, tool registration for custom or self-hosted agents, or gateway access for OpenAI-compatible clients.
  • The documented workflow uses local scored memory slices and feedback-based retrieval thresholds.
  • Cache behavior varies by provider and serving stack, so Semantix documents vendor-specific lifetimes and telemetry rather than one universal cache rule.
  • The repository describes fail-open behavior for kernel errors in attached-agent workflows, while verified-result reuse is described as fail-closed.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Install Semantix and start a project workspace

Set up the Semantix CLI and launch its coding agent in a project directory.

Before you start

  • macOS or Linux
  • A project directory
  • A provider and API key for the first run

Steps

  1. Run the documented installation script to place semantix and semantix-agent in ~/.local/bin.

  2. Change into the project directory.

  3. Run semantix to launch the coding agent; the first run sets up the provider and API key.

Expected outcome

The coding agent starts from the selected project directory with cross-session memory enabled.

Guide limitations

  • The documented installation command covers macOS and Linux with arm64 or amd64 targets.
  • The evidence does not document a specific provider, API-key procedure or execution result.
COMPARE OPTIONS
