Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when a project requires source-level control of Kaspa node software or Rust-based access to related protocol components.
Who it is for
- Kaspa node operators
- Rust developers building protocol tooling
- Developers creating node integrations
- Teams working with supported WebAssembly components
Documented uses
- Run a self-hosted Kaspa full node.
- Build Kaspa-compatible protocol tooling in Rust.
- Create integrations with related node libraries.
- Compile supported components for WebAssembly-based tooling.
Requirements & limits
The repository is publicly accessible on GitHub and is licensed under ISC. Documented build targets include Linux, Windows and macOS, with command-line and server use supported by the project structure.
- Rust is the primary implementation language.
- The project includes a full node as well as related libraries.
- WebAssembly builds require additional wasm-pack, Rust target and LLVM-related setup.
- The README distinguishes the default master branch from the stable branch used for the latest stable release.
- Windows builds include a documented LLVM and AR configuration caveat.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Prepare a Linux build checkout
Install the documented Linux prerequisites and clone the Rusty Kaspa repository.
Before you start
- A Linux system with access to apt and the shell.
- Permission to install packages.
- The Rust toolchain, wasm-pack and the wasm32-unknown-unknown target.
Steps
Install the general build prerequisites, Protobuf packages and the documented clang and LLVM tooling with apt.
Install or update the Rust toolchain.
Install wasm-pack with Cargo.
Add the wasm32-unknown-unknown Rust target.
Clone the repository and change into its directory.
Expected outcome
A Linux checkout with the documented dependencies and Rusty Kaspa source available for subsequent development or compilation.
Guide limitations
- These documented steps prepare the checkout but do not describe a complete node launch or deployment procedure.
- The README notes that the stable branch corresponds to the latest stable release, while the default branch is master.
