Practical overview
When it fits
Use the repository when you need Polymesh node software, a local development chain, or code and instructions for compiling and testing the blockchain runtime. Choose testnet for testing or mainnet when working with the official public network and its CDD onboarding requirement.
Who it is for
- Infrastructure teams running a Polymesh node or exploring its operator-node guidance.
- Developers building or testing applications and workflows on Polymesh.
- Rust developers compiling or testing Polymesh runtime code.
Documented uses
- Connect a node to Polymesh testnet or mainnet.
- Start a single-node development chain.
- Build the node and run documented unit tests or runtime benchmarks.
- Use Polymesh as a base for security-token and open-finance development.
Requirements & limits
The README documents Linux release binaries. Testnet onboarding is described as requiring no KYC; mainnet access requires Customer Due Diligence (CDD).
- The repository is GPL-3.0 licensed and uses Rust.
- The README documents mainnet, testnet and a single-node development chain.
- The supplied network-start commands describe non-operating nodes; operator-node guidance is in the separate polymesh-tools repository.
- Testnet and mainnet can briefly differ in version during upgrade cycles.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Start a local Polymesh development chain
Run a single-node Polymesh development chain using a release build.
Before you start
- The Polymesh repository and a release build that provides
./target/release/polymesh.
Steps
Build the node in release mode with the command below.
cargo build --releaseStart the development chain with
./target/release/polymesh --dev.
Expected outcome
A single-node Polymesh development chain is started.
Guide limitations
- The instructions do not describe persistent storage, network exposure, or production deployment.
- Detailed logs are documented as an optional invocation using
RUST_LOG=debug RUST_BACKTRACE=1.
