Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when an application needs a common Python interface to language servers and their repository-level analysis results, especially across more than one supported programming language.
Who it is for
- Python developers building language-aware developer tools
- Teams creating repository analysis workflows
- Researchers and engineers combining language-server context with code language models
Documented uses
- Query definitions, references, completions, hover information and document symbols
- Build applications that use language-server results across multiple programming languages
- Provide static-analysis context to code-completion or code-generation workflows
Requirements & limits
The project is available as a public MIT-licensed repository and can be installed as a Python package with pip.
- The application must work with one of the language-server pairings listed by the project.
- The relevant language server and its platform-specific setup are part of the integration context.
- Multilspy provides the client and query layer; completion products, language models and higher-level generation logic must be built separately.
- Both synchronous and asyncio interfaces are available for different Python application designs.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install Multilspy in a Python environment
Set up the Multilspy package in a Python 3.10 virtual environment.
Before you start
- Python 3.10 or newer
- Conda, or another Python virtual-environment workflow
- pip
Steps
Create a new environment with Python 3.10, such as with conda create -n multilspy_env python=3.10.
Activate the environment.
Install the package with pip install multilspy.
Expected outcome
Multilspy is installed in an isolated Python environment ready for application development.
Guide limitations
- This setup procedure does not document execution of a language-server query.
- A project still needs a supported language server and a repository path for application use.
