Practical overview
When it fits
Use Maicro when an organization wants a Discord-connected RAG service and can configure Gemini, Qdrant and a Discord bot. The repository documents local Docker setup and API-based ingestion and questions.
Who it is for
- Organizations and communities that want to make shared knowledge searchable through natural-language questions.
- Teams that use Discord channels for announcements and want message history available to a question-answering service.
Documented uses
- Ask questions against centralized organizational knowledge.
- Ingest selected Discord channel history into a searchable knowledge store.
- Keep indexed Discord information aligned with message creation, edits and deletions.
- Retrieve information using both semantic and keyword search, including time-oriented questions.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and lists an MIT license. The README documents running the service locally with Docker; required external configuration includes Gemini and Qdrant credentials and Discord bot access.
- The documented ingestion and synchronization workflow is built around Discord channels.
- Answering uses Google Gemini; vectors and cursors are stored in Qdrant Cloud.
- Retrieval combines semantic vector search and BM25 keyword search with Reciprocal Rank Fusion.
- The service has no local database in its stated stateless architecture.
- The documented setup requires API credentials, a configured Discord bot and selected channel IDs.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Configure Maicro and query Discord knowledge
Set up the documented local service, ingest Discord history into Qdrant and submit a question.
Before you start
- Docker and an environment file
- A Google Gemini API key
- A Qdrant Cloud URL and API key
- A Discord bot token and channel IDs
- Discord Message Content Intent enabled and read-message/history permissions granted
Steps
Copy
.env.exampleto.envand fill in the required Gemini, Qdrant and Discord settings.Run the published GHCR image with Docker, passing the environment file and mapping port 8000.
POST to
/api/v1/ingest/discordto sync Discord message history to Qdrant.POST a JSON question to
/api/v1/ask.
Expected outcome
The local API is configured to ingest selected Discord history and accept questions against the knowledge service.
Guide limitations
- The guide documents local Docker setup and API requests; it does not establish results for a particular organization or dataset.
- Discord access is limited to the configured channels and requires the stated bot permissions.
Compare options for Retrieval-augmented applications
These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
