Practical overview
When it fits
Use NLP Architect when you want a Python-based library and examples for experimenting with NLP models, rather than a hosted service that performs text analysis for you.
Who it is for
- Developers building or adapting NLP and NLU model workflows in Python.
- Researchers exploring deep-learning architectures and text-processing methods.
- Learners using the project's Jupyter tutorials to examine NLP tasks.
Documented uses
- Prototype model-training workflows for NLP and NLU.
- Explore tutorials for tasks such as question answering, intent extraction, named entity recognition and sentiment analysis.
- Run library procedures for model training or inference through the CLI.
- Work with dataset loaders, processors, model APIs and end-to-end pipelines.
Requirements & limits
The project identifies itself as open source. The quick start documents installation through pip or from source, and the tutorial instructions use a local Jupyter notebook.
- The documented quick start requires Python 3.6 or later and recommends a virtual environment.
- Examples and solutions require installation from source with the [all] extras.
- TensorFlow or PyTorch backends are installed separately according to the desired framework and CPU, MKL or GPU configuration.
- The CLI is described as in development, with some functionality incomplete.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install NLP Architect from source
Install the library in development mode from its source repository.
Before you start
- Python 3.6 or later
- A virtual environment
Steps
Clone the NLP Architect repository.
Change into the nlp-architect directory.
Run pip install -e . to install in development mode.
Expected outcome
NLP Architect is installed in development mode in the active Python environment.
Guide limitations
- This setup does not install the extra packages needed for the provided examples and solutions.
- TensorFlow or PyTorch backends must be installed separately as needed.
Open an NLP Architect Jupyter tutorial
Start the notebook interface and access the project's tutorials.
Before you start
- An activated virtual environment with NLP Architect installed
- Jupyter installed
Steps
Install Jupyter with pip3 install jupyter if it is not already installed.
From the NLP Architect root directory, run jupyter notebook.
Open http://localhost:8888 in a browser and select a tutorial.
Expected outcome
The tutorial notebooks are available to explore, including examples for question answering, named entity recognition and sentiment analysis.
Guide limitations
- The instructions describe starting the notebook interface and selecting a tutorial; they do not specify steps for executing a particular model.
Compare options for Model inference and serving
These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
