Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when a Solana validator’s account or slot updates need to be streamed to gRPC subscribers.
Who it is for
- Solana validator operators who need to expose account or slot updates to downstream subscribers.
- Developers building consumers for Solana account updates or slot-monitoring pipelines.
Documented uses
- Stream validator account updates to downstream consumers.
- Subscribe to Solana slot updates for monitoring.
- Configure the plugin as part of a Solana validator deployment.
Requirements & limits
- The plugin’s Solana library and release versions must match the validator version.
- The documented build options are Cargo and Docker.
- Running the plugin requires editing its JSON configuration, adding a validator startup argument, and restarting the validator.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Configure the plugin on a Solana validator
Enable the gRPC plugin on a validator and check its startup logs.
Before you start
- A Solana validator
- A plugin build whose Solana version matches the validator client version
Steps
Copy and edit the example JSON configuration for the validator.
Add a startup argument such as
--geyser-plugin-config geyser.json.Restart the validator.
Check logs for
Starting GeyserPluginService from config filesorgeyser_grpc_plugin_server::server.
Expected outcome
The validator is configured to start the Geyser gRPC service; the listed log messages are the documented startup checks.
Guide limitations
- The plugin release should match the validator client version.
