Practical overview
When it fits
Use Ethvm when you need an Ethereum explorer or are assessing an open-source processing and frontend stack for Ethereum analytics; the repository also provides a local Sepolia frontend setup.
Who it is for
- People looking to inspect Ethereum Mainnet or Sepolia through a block explorer.
- Developers evaluating components for an Ethereum explorer or analytics interface.
- Developers configuring the documented frontend locally for Sepolia.
Documented uses
- Explore Ethereum blockchain data through a client-side block explorer.
- Use data-processing components as a basis for Ethereum analytics.
- Configure and serve the frontend locally with Sepolia settings.
Requirements & limits
- The repository names Ethereum Mainnet and Sepolia as supported networks.
- The explorer is described as client-side, while the API/processor is a separate JavaScript component.
- The documented local setup requires Node 18.0.0 and pnpm 6.35.1 and points to Ethvm's Sepolia services.
- The project identifies its license as SSPL, described as a variation of GNU Affero License v3.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up the Ethvm frontend locally for Sepolia
Configure and start the documented Sepolia frontend locally.
Before you start
- Node version 18.0.0
- pnpm version 6.35.1
- The Ethvm repository and its frontend code in the v2 directory
Steps
Clone the Ethvm repository and change into the v2 directory.
Create a local .env file with NODE_ENV=development, VUE_APP_NETWORK='SEPOLIA', VUE_APP_PUBLIC_URL='sepolia.ethvm.com/', VUE_APP_HTTP_LINK=https://sepolia-api-v2.ethvm.dev, and VUE_APP_WS_CLIENT=wss://sepolia-apiws-v2.ethvm.dev.
Run pnpm install to install the packages.
Run pnpm serve; the README says the app should run at https://localhost:8080.
Expected outcome
A locally served frontend configured for Sepolia and the listed Ethvm HTTP and WebSocket services.
Guide limitations
- The instructions cover frontend setup and serving, not deployment of the API or processing engine.
- The repository's clone command is shown in an unusual form; consult the repository for a usable clone URL.
Compare options for Blockchain exploration
These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
| Project | Documented purpose | Platform | Access and requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ethvm | Explore Ethereum blockchain data through a client-side block explorer. | Self-hosted, Server, Web | |
| Chainlens | Explore a supported blockchain network through a dashboard. | Docker, Self-hosted, Server | The free edition is described as free for non-commercial use and evaluation. Its deployment configuration supports Docker Compose or Kubernetes. Web3 Labs separately describes hosted plans; commercial-use inquiries are directed to the provider. |
| Mempool | Visualize pending Bitcoin transactions. | Docker, Self-hosted, Server, Web |
