Practical overview
When it fits
Use Ethkit when a Go-based Ethereum project needs reusable development packages or a CLI for wallet, artifact and RPC tasks. Choose the CLI for one-off queries and artifact operations, or the library packages when building those functions into a Go service.
Who it is for
- Go developers building services that interact with Ethereum-compatible networks.
- Smart-contract developers who need to generate Go client code from Truffle artifacts.
- Developers who need CLI access to wallet keyfiles, contract artifacts, balances or block data.
Documented uses
- Create or import an Ethereum wallet keyfile and access its account address.
- Generate Go contract client code from a JSON ABI or Truffle artifact.
- Read ABI or bytecode from a Truffle artifact.
- Query an account balance at a selected block through RPC.
- Retrieve block information by height or tag.
Requirements & limits
- The CLI’s balance and block queries depend on an RPC endpoint; the balance command accepts the endpoint URL explicitly.
- The wallet command supports mnemonic import and can print a mnemonic, which the README marks as dangerous.
- The CLI installation command uses Go’s
go installmechanism. - The README identifies MIT licensing for Ethkit source and separate licenses for vendored and dependency code.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install the Ethkit CLI
Install the command-line tool using the repository’s documented Go command.
Before you start
- Go installation, for running the documented go install command.
Steps
Run the command below.
go install github.com/0xsequence/ethkit/cmd/ethkit@latestInvoke the CLI using
ethkit [command].
Expected outcome
The documented installation command installs the Ethkit CLI, which can be invoked with its command interface.
Guide limitations
- This covers installation and invocation only; it does not describe a specific command workflow.
- The source does not document Go version requirements.
