Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when a software decision benefits from comparing multiple model-generated perspectives, particularly when answers may depend on different assumptions. Check the reasoning behind any consensus rather than treating it as validation.
Who it is for
- Developers using Claude Code who want to compare model perspectives on coding questions.
- Teams or individuals weighing software architecture, debugging, security-review, or framework choices.
Documented uses
- Compare responses from selected AI providers to a coding or design question.
- Include a source file or screenshot in a request for review or visual critique.
- Review a synthesis of where provider answers agree, diverge, or depend on assumptions.
- Run a long query asynchronously and retrieve its result later.
Requirements & limits
Requires Claude Code and at least one configured provider. Provider access can use API keys, supported subscription-authenticated CLIs, or local Ollama. The repository lists an MIT license.
- The plugin operates within Claude Code rather than as a standalone model service.
- Provider choices include API-routed models, supported CLIs using subscription authentication, and local Ollama.
- The
--fileand--imageoptions support requests with code or a screenshot; image review is for vision-capable providers. - A tmux side pane can stream responses as they arrive; asynchronous jobs are available for long queries.
- Codex specialists that take coding tasks on their own Git branch are marked experimental.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install the plugin and ask a first question
Set up Claude Council in Claude Code and submit a question to configured agents.
Before you start
- Claude Code
- At least one provider configured through an API key, a supported subscription-authenticated CLI, or local Ollama
Steps
Add the hex marketplace with
/plugin marketplace add hex/claude-marketplace.Install the plugin with
/plugin install claude-council.Configure at least one provider using the documented API-key environment variable or install a supported provider CLI.
Ask a question with
/claude-council:ask "Should I use UUID or BIGINT primary keys for a SaaS users table?".
Expected outcome
Claude Council presents responses from configured providers side by side and provides a synthesis of agreement and disagreement.
Guide limitations
- The synthesis compares model responses; the project documentation cautions that agreement is not verification of assumptions about a system the agents cannot inspect.
- The recipe depends on having at least one provider configured.
Compare options for AI coding assistance
These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
