Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when a codebase-improvement task can be divided across concurrent agents and you can provide the project, configuration and required development tools.
Who it is for
- Developers coordinating parallel coding-agent work on an existing codebase.
- Teams running systematic bug-fixing or best-practices workflows across supported project stacks.
Documented uses
- Run multiple coding agents on codebase bug-fixing tasks.
- Coordinate agents implementing best practices from a project guide.
- Manage concurrent sessions through tmux and lock-based coordination.
- Review progress using git commits, diff summaries and HTML run reports.
Requirements & limits
The project is available as a public GitHub repository and is used through a CLI.
- The documented baseline requires Python 3.13+, uv, tmux, git and configured Claude Code.
- Project-specific development tools may also be needed.
- JSON configuration files control workflows; the repository lists support for 34 technology stacks.
- Other interactive coding-agent CLIs can be pointed to through the cc alias, but monitoring and context-management features assume Claude Code.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up the agent farm and check prerequisites
Install the framework and run its documented pre-flight check for a target project.
Before you start
- Python 3.13 or later
- uv
- tmux
- git
- Claude Code installed and configured
Steps
Clone the repository and enter its directory.
Make setup.sh executable and run it; the script creates a Python virtual environment, installs dependencies and configures the cc alias.
Run claude-code-agent-farm doctor --path /path/to/project to check prerequisites and project-specific tools.
Expected outcome
The framework is set up and the pre-flight verifier reports checks for the environment and specified project.
Guide limitations
- The project’s tools, such as bun or Python linters, may be required depending on the target codebase.
- direnv is optional rather than a prerequisite.
Start a configured bug-fixing or best-practices workflow
Launch the documented workflow for a supported project using its configuration file.
Before you start
- A set-up agent farm and target project
- A workflow configuration for the project
- For the best-practices workflow, a best-practices guide in the project
Steps
For bug fixing, select the configuration for the project stack, such as configs/nextjs_config.json or configs/python_config.json.
Run claude-code-agent-farm with --path set to the project and --config set to the selected configuration.
For a best-practices workflow, place the relevant guide in the project and use its corresponding configuration, such as configs/nextjs_best_practices_config.json.
Expected outcome
The configured agents are directed to work on the selected project-improvement workflow.
Guide limitations
- The README examples depend on project-specific configurations and tools.
- The guide must be in place for the documented best-practices example.
Compare options for Agent orchestration
These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
| Project | Documented purpose | Platform | Access and requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| Claude Code Agent Farm | Run multiple coding agents on codebase bug-fixing tasks. | CLI | The project is available as a public GitHub repository and is used through a CLI. |
| Massgen | Run multiple AI agents against the same user task. | CLI | The repository documents installation through pip or uv and requires Python 3.11 or later. Setup can configure API keys for OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and xAI; credentials are needed for the selected model backends. |
| Langchain Multi Agents Boilerplate | Route incoming football questions to model and agent workflows according to task complexity. | Web | The repository is public and specifies an MIT license. Running the application requires OpenAI and Groq API keys and a Redis server. |
