Practical overview
When it fits
Use Cc Switch when your work involves several supported AI coding or agent applications and provider changes or shared configuration management would otherwise require editing files separately.
Who it is for
- Developers using more than one supported AI coding or agent application.
- Users who need a desktop interface for provider and configuration management.
- Teams or individuals organizing MCP servers, skills and prompts across supported tools.
Documented uses
- Switch API providers across supported AI coding and agent tools.
- Manage MCP server configurations from one place.
- Organize skills and prompts without repeatedly hand-editing JSON, TOML or YAML files.
- Maintain configuration profiles for tools such as Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode.
Requirements & limits
The repository identifies Cc Switch as an open-source MIT-licensed project with API availability documented as yes. It targets Windows, macOS and Linux desktop environments.
- Supported application coverage matters: the project names Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex, Gemini CLI, Grok Build, OpenCode, OpenClaw and Hermes Agent among its ecosystems.
- Its main distinction is centralized configuration management rather than a standalone coding or agent runtime.
- The tool is desktop-based and cross-platform, with Windows, macOS and Linux listed as supported platforms.
- The repository is public, active and MIT licensed.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install CC Switch on macOS with Homebrew
Install CC Switch on a supported macOS version using the recommended Homebrew method.
Before you start
- macOS 12 (Monterey) or later
- Homebrew
Steps
Run
brew install --cask cc-switch.Open CC Switch; the macOS build is code-signed and notarized.
Expected outcome
CC Switch is installed and can be opened on macOS.
Guide limitations
- This installation method is documented for macOS; other platforms have separate installation options.
Add and enable a provider for an AI tool
Add a provider configuration for a selected tool and enable it in CC Switch.
Before you start
- CC Switch installed and open
- A tool available to select in the sidebar
- A provider preset or custom configuration
Steps
Select the tool to manage in the sidebar.
Click “+” (Add Provider) in the top-right corner.
Choose a preset or create a custom configuration.
Select the provider and click “Enable”; for OpenCode, OpenClaw, Hermes, and MiniMax Code, click “Add” instead.
Expected outcome
The selected provider is enabled or added for the chosen tool.
Guide limitations
- OpenCode, OpenClaw, Hermes, and MiniMax Code use coexist mode, allowing multiple providers to be added. Changes may require restarting the relevant CLI, terminal, or Claude Desktop; Claude Code needs no restart.
