Practical overview
When it fits
Use Bert4Torch when your project is Python-based and you want a PyTorch-oriented library and examples for transformer tasks, or when you want to invoke its documented local or online model-serving workflows.
Who it is for
- Python developers building or adapting transformer-based machine-learning workflows.
- Researchers and practitioners prototyping NLP tasks such as sentence classification, embeddings, sequence labeling and relation extraction.
- Developers exploring inference or fine-tuning for supported large language model weights.
Documented uses
- Load pretrained transformer weights for fine-tuning or inference.
- Build or adapt NLP examples for classification, embeddings, labeling, extraction and sequence-to-sequence tasks.
- Invoke documented large-model serving modes through the command line, Gradio or an OpenAI API mode.
Requirements & limits
The project is public on GitHub, identifies its license as MIT, and documents installation from PyPI or directly from GitHub.
- The README names a broad range of transformer and large-language-model families, but using a particular model depends on its weights and loading requirements.
- For local serving, the model directory must include a matching
bert4torch_config.json. - The repository cautions that weights may need conversion.
- The project says PyPI releases can lag behind GitHub development.
- The README says development moved to PyTorch 2.0 and warns that other versions may encounter incompatibility.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Start a documented local model-serving mode
Start a Bert4Torch serving mode with a model already stored locally.
Before you start
- Bert4Torch installed.
- A local model directory containing the model files and matching
bert4torch_config.json.
Steps
Choose the local model directory that contains the required configuration file.
Run
bert4torch serve /path/to/model --mode clifor command-line mode,--mode gradiofor the Gradio mode, or--mode openaifor the OpenAI API mode.
Expected outcome
The selected serving mode is invoked for the local model directory.
Guide limitations
- This guidance covers the documented invocation, not successful execution or model compatibility.
- The README cautions that weights may need conversion.
Compare options for Model inference and serving
These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
| Project | Documented purpose | Platform | Access and requirements |
