Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it when coding-agent activity should remain in a terminal-based workflow, with documented approval prompts for risky operations and configurable providers or permissions.

Who it is for

  • Developers who work in a terminal
  • Teams exploring configurable coding-agent workflows
  • Users who need an agent for local, editor or CI/CD engineering work

Documented uses

  • Generate and modify code
  • Understand project context before making changes
  • Run shell tools and tests as part of a coding workflow
  • Automate repetitive engineering tasks
  • Extend agent workflows with skills and hooks

Requirements & limits

The public repository lists an Apache-2.0 license. Documented installation paths include a Unix shell script, Homebrew and manual installation with Bun.

  • Terminal-first interaction rather than a standalone visual editor
  • Support for macOS, Linux and Windows is documented
  • Provider choices include hosted services and local models
  • Manual installation requires Bun 1.0 or later and Git
  • The installer may replace an existing generic agent command on the PATH

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Build and install Autohand Code CLI from the repository

Prepare the CLI locally from its TypeScript repository.

Before you start

  • Bun version 1.0 or later
  • Git

Steps

  1. Clone the repository from https://github.com/autohandai/code-cli.git.

  2. Change into the code-cli directory.

  3. Run bun install.

  4. Run bun run build.

  5. Run bun add -g . to install the built package globally.

Expected outcome

The repository documents a globally installed CLI using the manual build path.

Guide limitations

  • The documented manual path does not describe provider setup or a coding-agent session after installation.
  • Ripgrep is optional and is described only as improving search speed.
