Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use Argent X when a Starknet dapp interaction calls for a browser wallet, or when building a dapp integration around StarknetKit and starknet.js.

Who it is for

  • Starknet users who need a browser-extension wallet for dapp interactions.
  • Dapp developers implementing Starknet wallet connection with StarknetKit and starknet.js.

Documented uses

  • Connect a Starknet dapp to a wallet selected by the user.
  • Use a connected wallet’s starknet.js Signer to make requests through the user’s wallet contract.
  • Use a starknet.js Provider to read Starknet state or send anonymous transactions when no extension is connected.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

  • The documented developer integration uses StarknetKit and requires starknet.js as a peer dependency.
  • The repository links to a Chrome Web Store download and documents loading a locally built extension in Chrome or Firefox.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Build and load Argent X from source in Chrome

Build the repository packages and load the resulting unpacked extension in Chrome.

Before you start

  • A local clone of the argentlabs/argent-x repository
  • pnpm
  • Chrome

Steps

  1. From the repository directory, run pnpm run setup to set up dependencies.

  2. Run pnpm build to build all packages.

  3. In Chrome, open chrome://extensions and enable Developer mode.

  4. Choose Load unpacked and select the extension directory at packages/extension/dist.

Expected outcome

The locally built Argent X extension is loaded in Chrome as an unpacked extension.

Guide limitations

  • This procedure covers building and loading the extension, not wallet setup or use.
  • The repository documents Chrome steps; it does not establish compatibility with other browsers.
