Anchor Version Detector

Anchor Version Detector is an AGPL-3.0 Rust library and command-line tool that reads Solana project configuration files to detect declared Rust, Solana/Agave and Anchor versions, resolve missing versions using compatibility rules, and report provenance, inference details and warnings.

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it when a Solana project’s Rust, Solana/Agave or Anchor versions need to be detected or when another Rust tool needs structured compatibility results from project files.

Who it is for

  • Solana and Anchor developers checking project toolchain declarations.
  • Rust tool builders who need structured version-detection or compatibility data.
  • Teams creating project scanners or CI checks for missing or inconsistent version declarations.

Documented uses

  • Find version signals across Rust toolchain, Anchor and Cargo configuration files.
  • Scan nested project directories when root-level configuration is incomplete.
  • Resolve partial version information through a compatibility matrix.
  • Inspect the sources, inference metadata and warnings behind a detected result.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

The public repository specifies the AGPL-3.0 license.

  • The detector reads rust-toolchain, rust-toolchain.toml, Anchor.toml and Cargo.toml, including workspace dependencies.
  • Recursive scanning can inspect subdirectories when root-level signals are incomplete; common build and cache paths are skipped by default.
  • The library returns structured reports with source provenance, inference metadata and warnings, while the CLI is intentionally minimal.
  • If no exact compatibility rule is found, resolution falls back to the latest known compatible versions and records warnings.
  • Projects that do not appear to be Solana or Anchor projects produce an error rather than invented compatibility data.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Scan a Solana project with the CLI

Use the documented command-line wrapper to inspect version signals for a Solana project directory.

Before you start

  • The Anchor Version Detector repository and its Rust CLI usage.
  • A path to a Solana project.

Steps

  1. From the repository, run the command below, substituting the project path.

    Documented command
    cargo run -- /path/to/solana/project
  2. Review the detected or inferred versions and the reported current environment.

Expected outcome

The CLI displays detected or inferred Rust, Solana and Anchor versions for the project.

Guide limitations

  • The CLI is described as intentionally minimal; use the library API when richer structured metadata is needed.
  • A directory that does not look like a Solana or Anchor project returns an error.
