Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when agents need to retain context between sessions and collaborate in the same local project rather than operating in isolated sandboxes.
Who it is for
- Developers building agent-based projects.
- Teams or individuals coordinating multiple AI agents in one project.
- Users seeking local, persistent Claude or Claude Code workflows.
- Builders needing a memory-oriented foundation for autonomous-agent applications.
Documented uses
- Preserve agent context across sessions.
- Let agents collaborate through a shared filesystem and local mailbox files.
- Reach agents through a common CLI command.
- Add agent infrastructure to an existing project.
- Orchestrate Claude-oriented agent workflows.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and identifies an MIT license. The README documents Linux, macOS and Windows support, with CLI and self-hosted use. It states that the workflow runs on an existing Claude Pro or Max subscription and that core functionality does not require extra API keys; outside-API connections use the user’s own keys.
- Whether a local shared filesystem is preferable to isolated agent sandboxes.
- Whether persistent memory between sessions is a core requirement.
- Whether a CLI-native workflow fits the project.
- Whether changes to user-level Claude Code, shell and Git configuration are acceptable.
- Whether the existing Claude Code and subscription setup matches the documented workflow.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install the Aipass workspace
Set up the documented local Aipass environment and its command-line tools.
Before you start
- A shell environment with Git available.
- A working Claude Code installation or subscription for the documented Claude-based workflow.
- The AIPass repository URL.
Steps
Clone https://github.com/AIOSAI/AIPass.git.
Change into the AIPass directory.
Run ./aipass install.
Follow the interactive prompts when they appear, or use the documented non-interactive behavior in CI or another non-terminal shell.
Expected outcome
The installer builds the environment, places aipass and drone on the PATH, bootstraps the reference agent fleet and configures Claude Code hooks.
Guide limitations
- The installer can change user-level Claude Code settings, shell configuration and Git configuration; the repository’s Uninstall section should be consulted for affected files.
- Linux may request sudo for /usr/local/bin symlinks.
- The welcome conversation and doctor preflight are skipped with --no-chat; non-interactive shells use defaults and do not spawn a session.
- BAUD components are installed on a best-effort basis and may be unavailable if the release cannot be reached.
Compare options for Agent orchestration
These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
| Project | Documented purpose | Platform | Access and requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aipass | Preserve agent context across sessions. | CLI, Linux, macOS, Self-hosted | The repository is public and identifies an MIT license. The README documents Linux, macOS and Windows support, with CLI and self-hosted use. It states that the workflow runs on an existing Claude Pro or Max subscription and that core functionality does not require extra API keys; outside-API connections use the user’s own keys. |
| Continuum — pouyahasanamreji | Store project lessons so coding agents can retrieve them across conversations. | CLI, Self-hosted, Server | The repository documents local Docker Compose and bare-metal development setups. Bare-metal startup requires Node 22.12.0 or later and pnpm 10.33 or later; the Compose path skips these host prerequisites. |
| Pro Workflow | Turn an agent correction into a searchable rule that can load in later sessions. | CLI, Self-hosted | The project documents a native Claude Code plugin installation, a skills add route for other agents, and a manual installation route. Its repository is public. |
