Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it when a .NET application needs to call Weaviate through the documented C# client, or when beginning an integration with a metadata request.

Who it is for

  • C# and .NET developers integrating applications with a Weaviate server.
  • Teams writing integration tests for .NET applications' Weaviate interactions.

Documented uses

  • Add Weaviate server access to a .NET application.
  • Retrieve and inspect Weaviate server metadata, including its version.
  • Use a client library in tests of application interactions with Weaviate.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

The library is published on NuGet and the public repository specifies an Apache-2.0 license.

  • The documented package is SearchPioneer.Weaviate.Client and its setup uses Flurl.
  • The project says the package version should match the Weaviate server version, with patch releases compatible within the same minor version.
  • The README example configures an HTTP endpoint and calls Misc.Meta().

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Install the package and request server metadata

Set up the documented client example to retrieve the Weaviate server version or display its returned error.

Before you start

  • A .NET application.
  • A Weaviate server endpoint.
  • The SearchPioneer.Weaviate.Client NuGet package and Flurl.

Steps

  1. Install SearchPioneer.Weaviate.Client through the package manager console or package manager UI.

  2. Create a FlurlClient and a WeaviateClient configured with the protocol and host for the Weaviate server.

  3. Call weaviateClient.Misc.Meta() and inspect the result, as in the README example.

Expected outcome

The example prints the returned error message when present, or the server version otherwise.

Guide limitations

  • The README example uses HTTP and localhost:8080; it does not document a complete production connection configuration.
  • The package version should match the Weaviate server version; the project says patch versions are compatible within a minor version.
