  • Claude Code users looking for examples of hooks, skills, commands and MCP server setup.

Documented uses

  • Set up global or project-level Claude Code instructions using templates.

Requirements & limits

The repository is public and identifies an MIT license.

  • The V2 guide is explicitly marked obsolete; the README points to a separate Starter Kit and also links to V3 guide material.
  • Python 3.8+ and jq are listed as prerequisites for particular hook scripts, while Claude Code is the stated prerequisite for the setup.
  • MDD is described as a separate installable package, not as an integrated feature of the repository’s configuration files.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Set up Claude Code hooks, skills and global instructions

Copy the repository’s documented configuration files into the Claude Code user configuration directory.

Before you start

  • Claude Code installed
  • Python 3.8+ for Python hooks
  • jq for JSON parsing in shell hooks
  • A local copy of the repository

Steps

  1. Create ~/.claude/hooks and copy the documented hook scripts there.

  2. Make the shell hook scripts executable with chmod +x.

  3. Copy templates/settings.json to ~/.claude/settings.json, or merge its hooks section into an existing settings file.

  4. Create ~/.claude/skills and copy the skills directory contents there.

  5. Copy templates/global-claude.md to ~/.claude/CLAUDE.md and customize it.

Expected outcome

The documented hook scripts, skills and global instructions template are placed in the Claude Code configuration directories.

Guide limitations

  • The repository asks users to review and customize the settings template.
  • If settings.json already exists, its hooks section should be merged manually.
  • The README provides separate commands for checking loaded hooks and skills; copying files alone does not establish that they are loaded.
