Practical overview
When it fits
Use Manuscript when you need a configurable processing layer to move selected blockchain data into a downstream output for querying or analysis.
Who it is for
- Developers building blockchain data ingestion and analysis pipelines.
- Teams that need to select chain data and direct processed results to storage or console output.
Documented uses
- Select blockchain data such as blocks, transactions or transaction logs.
- Configure data tasks for a local container environment.
- Direct selected data to PostgreSQL or the console.
- Use the CLI to inspect jobs and logs, stop jobs, or deploy to a local environment or the Chainbase network.
Requirements & limits
The project is published under the Apache-2.0 license. The README requires Docker Desktop 25.1 or later for its getting-started workflow.
- Docker Desktop 25.1 or later is a stated prerequisite for getting started.
- The repository documents both GUI and CLI clients; the CLI example exposes chain, table and output choices.
- The README lists PostgreSQL and console as example output targets and describes broader storage and access-method ambitions.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Initialize a local blockchain data task with the CLI
Create a Manuscript configuration by choosing a listed chain, data table and output target.
Before you start
- Docker Desktop 25.1 or later
- The Manuscript CLI installed using the repository's documented installer
Steps
Install the CLI with the install command shown in the repository README.
Run
manuscript-cli initto initialize the local Manuscript environment and configuration.Choose a chain and a table, such as blocks, transactionLogs or transactions.
Select PostgreSQL or console output as the target.
Expected outcome
A `manuscript.yaml` configuration for a local standalone container environment, with the selected chain, table and output target.
Guide limitations
- The documented example covers initialization and configuration; it does not establish that a particular pipeline will run successfully in a given environment.
