Eiquidus

Eiquidus is open-source software for self-hosting a blockchain explorer for altcoins that implement some form of the Bitcoin RPC API. Built with Node.js and MongoDB, it synchronizes blockchain data and provides block, transaction and address views, network information, market charts and public API access.

Practical overview

When it fits

Use Eiquidus when you can operate the required Node.js and MongoDB stack, have access to a synchronized compatible coin daemon, and need to host or customize an explorer rather than consume a turnkey hosted lookup service.

Who it is for

  • Altcoin teams or node operators who want to run a public explorer for a Bitcoin-RPC-compatible network.
  • Developers who want to customize an open-source explorer or build blockchain-data features using its public API.

Documented uses

  • Browse blocks, transactions and address activity for a supported coin.
  • Publish explorer data and related network information, including peers and masternodes.
  • Present market and chart views for a supported coin.
  • Provide public API access to indexed blockchain data.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

The repository identifies Eiquidus as open source under the BSD-3-Clause license. The explorer is self-hosted and requires operator-managed software and blockchain infrastructure.

  • The target coin must implement some form of Bitcoin RPC; the README says EVM networks such as ETH and BNB are not supported.
  • Setup requires Node.js, MongoDB, Git and a fully synchronized coin daemon; transaction indexing is commonly needed for complete transaction access.
  • The repository documents an API, charts, markets, peer and masternode listings, and wallet rankings, but available data depends on the coin and configuration.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Prepare and configure an Eiquidus installation

Set up the documented software prerequisites, database, source code and initial explorer configuration.

Before you start

  • Node.js (v20.9.0 or newer recommended)
  • MongoDB (v7.0.2 or newer recommended)
  • Git (v2.36.0 or newer recommended)
  • A fully synchronized coin daemon supporting the Bitcoin RPC API; transaction indexing is commonly needed for access to all transactions

Steps

  1. Install the listed prerequisites and ensure the coin daemon is synchronized.

  2. Create a MongoDB database and a user with read/write access.

  3. Clone the Eiquidus repository and install its production Node modules.

  4. Copy settings.json.template to settings.json and edit the required settings, including the database name.

Expected outcome

The documented initial installation and configuration files are in place; starting the explorer is a separate operational stage.

Guide limitations

  • Compatibility is limited to coins implementing some form of the Bitcoin RPC API; EVM chains such as ETH and BNB are not supported.
  • The guide does not establish that a particular coin daemon or configuration will work.
