Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use Orochimaru when a project needs self-hosted node infrastructure for Orochi Network’s verifiable-computation workloads or its documented Orand randomness flow.

Who it is for

  • Operators of Orochi Network node infrastructure
  • Rust developers building MPC or zero-knowledge workloads
  • Teams developing decentralized applications that use verifiable-computation results
  • Developers integrating Orand verifiable randomness with EVM-compatible smart contracts

Documented uses

  • Run an Orochi Network full node
  • Develop services using MPC and zero-knowledge-proof proving
  • Build decentralized applications that consume verifiable-computation results
  • Request and verify Orand randomness through the documented API and smart-contract flow

Requirements & limits

The repository is publicly available, identifies an Apache-2.0 license and is presented for Linux, server and self-hosted use. The supplied material does not specify account, pricing or wider service-availability requirements.

  • It is a full-node client rather than a blockchain itself.
  • The implementation language is Rust.
  • The network combines MPC and zero-knowledge-proof proving for verifiable computation.
  • The repository documents Orand, an ECVRF- and MPC-based randomness component for EVM-compatible blockchains.
  • The repository includes local API examples for creating and listing Orand epochs.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Start the documented local API service

Start the Orochimaru service and request Orand epoch data through its local HTTP API.

Before you start

  • A Rust and Cargo development environment is required by the documented cargo run step.
  • The Orochimaru repository: https://github.com/orochi-network/orochimaru

Steps

  1. Start the service with cargo run.

  2. Send a POST request to the local service at http://localhost:3000 using the orand_newEpoch method and a network parameter.

  3. Send a POST request using the orand_getPublicEpoch method to request recent public epoch data.

  4. Read the returned JSON fields, including network, epoch and proof-related values.

Expected outcome

The documented API flow returns epoch data for the requested network and can list recent public epochs.

Guide limitations

  • The source documents the example API calls but does not establish broader deployment, compatibility or production-operation requirements.
  • The examples use a local endpoint and do not document authentication, configuration or service hosting steps.
