Practical overview
When it fits
Consider Quicknode when an application needs hosted blockchain connectivity, indexed data, event streams or IPFS services, and the team is choosing which infrastructure components to use.
Who it is for
- Developers building applications that need hosted access to blockchain networks.
- Teams that need blockchain event streams or indexed data for application backends.
- Developers integrating IPFS gateways or pinning into an application.
Documented uses
- Connect a blockchain application to networks through RPC access.
- Use dedicated node backends as hosted infrastructure.
- Retrieve indexed blockchain data or stream blockchain events to an application backend.
- Integrate IPFS gateway and pinning services.
Requirements & limits
The pricing page offers a month to test the service without a card.
- Choose based on whether the application needs RPC requests, dedicated node backends, indexed data, real-time streams or IPFS services.
- The available information does not specify supported-chain lists or implementation prerequisites.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Send an Ethereum JSON-RPC request for the latest block number
Use a Quicknode endpoint to request the latest Ethereum block number.
Before you start
- A Quicknode endpoint URL and token, represented in the example as https://{your-endpoint-name}.quiknode.pro/{your-token}/
- An HTTP client capable of sending a POST request, such as curl
Steps
Send a POST request to the endpoint URL with the Content-Type header set to application/json.
Include a JSON-RPC payload with method eth_blockNumber, empty params, id 1, and jsonrpc 2.0.
Read the response containing the block-number result.
Expected outcome
The endpoint returns a JSON-RPC response for the latest block number.
Guide limitations
- The example uses placeholders for the endpoint name and token; replace them with your endpoint details.
- This recipe covers one JSON-RPC request and does not document endpoint creation or troubleshooting.
