Practical overview
When it fits
Use it for research, prototyping or performance exploration when a Rust implementation of lattice-based folding and an R1CS or CCS circuit frontend fit the work.
Who it is for
- Researchers prototyping lattice-based succinct proof systems.
- Rust developers experimenting with folding over R1CS or CCS circuits.
- Teams exploring Ajtai commitments, ring components or benchmark measurements for verifiable computation.
Documented uses
- Build the library from source with its specified Rust toolchain.
- Represent circuits using the documented R1CS or CCS structures for folding.
- Explore the LatticeFold and work-in-progress LatticeFold+ implementations.
- Benchmark protocol components and Ajtai commitments with Cargo.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and the crates are dual-licensed under Apache 2.0 or MIT.
- The documented circuit frontends are R1CS and CCS.
- LatticeFold+ is identified as work in progress.
- The README says the proof-of-concept has not received careful code review and is not production-ready.
- The specified build toolchain is nightly-2025-03-06.
- The README estimates a full cargo bench run at around 48 hours.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Build the library from source
Compile the Latticefold library in release mode using its pinned Rust toolchain.
Before you start
- Rustup and Cargo
- Rust toolchain nightly-2025-03-06
Steps
Install the specified toolchain with rustup install nightly-2025-03-06.
Clone https://github.com/NethermindEth/latticefold.git.
Change into the latticefold directory.
Run cargo build --release.
Expected outcome
Cargo builds the library in release mode.
Guide limitations
- The repository labels the implementation a proof-of-concept, says it has not received careful code review, and says it is not ready for production use.
