Practical overview
When it fits
Use Agave when you need self-hosted blockchain software, validator tooling, a local development network, or a Rust codebase to extend and benchmark. Follow the release build instructions for validator operation; the documented debug build is not suitable for testnet or mainnet validators.
Who it is for
- Blockchain infrastructure engineers and validator operators
- Rust developers extending blockchain or network software
- Teams developing, testing, or benchmarking decentralized applications
Documented uses
- Build validator and blockchain binaries from source
- Run a compatible testnet or production-network validator using the appropriate release build
- Create a local blockchain testnet for development and benchmarking
- Develop infrastructure around the documented public development cluster
- Use tests and benchmarks for blockchain performance work
Requirements & limits
The project is publicly accessible on GitHub and is open source under the Apache-2.0 license. It is documented for Linux, CLI, and server environments.
- Validator operation requires the appropriate release build; the README excludes the debug build for testnet or mainnet use.
- Linux-specific XDP networking is documented, with extra capabilities required for XDP zero-copy mode.
- The implementation is written in Rust and includes local testnet, testing, and benchmarking support.
- The repository is public and supports self-hosted use.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
