Practical overview

When it fits

Use Tachyon when you are working on X1 validator infrastructure, local network testing or Rust/SVM development. For validator deployment, follow the repository's release-build guidance rather than using a debug build.

Who it is for

  • X1 validator operators and Rust/SVM blockchain developers
  • Teams developing or testing decentralized applications on X1
  • Infrastructure engineers evaluating validator and local-testnet workflows
  • Open-source contributors

Documented uses

  • Build Tachyon from source
  • Run the documented test suite and benchmarks
  • Start a local X1-compatible testnet
  • Build and evaluate release validator software for X1
  • Inspect RPC, runtime and validator components for X1 infrastructure

Requirements & limits

The repository is public and licensed under Apache-2.0. It is maintained by X1 Labs and is primarily a Rust codebase used through Linux, CLI, self-hosted and server environments. Official X1 documentation is available at docs.x1.xyz.

  • Tachyon is maintained by X1 Labs and forked from Anza Agave.
  • X1 documentation describes the network as fully compatible with the Solana Virtual Machine (SVM).
  • Rust is the primary implementation language.
  • The repository includes documented build, test, benchmarking and local-testnet workflows.
  • Validator work requires a release build; the repository explicitly warns that debug builds are unsuitable for testnet or mainnet validators.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Build and test the Rust blockchain source

Create a local debug build and run the repository test suite.

Before you start

  • Linux package prerequisites may include libssl-dev, libudev-dev, pkg-config, zlib1g-dev, LLVM, Clang, CMake, Make, Protocol Buffers packages, and libclang.
  • Rustc, Cargo, and rustfmt are required.

Steps

  1. Install Rust with rustup, load the Cargo environment, and add the rustfmt component.

  2. Install the documented Linux dependencies for the applicable distribution.

  3. Clone the documented source repository and change into its directory.

  4. Run ./cargo build to create the debug build.

  5. Run ./cargo test to execute the test suite.

Expected outcome

A local debug build is created and the repository test suite is run.

Guide limitations

  • The documented debug build is not suitable for running a testnet or mainnet validator.
  • The source README points to separate release-build instructions for test and production validator use.
  • The documented clone URL is the Anza Agave repository, while the cited repository is x1-labs/tachyon.
