Practical overview

When it fits

Use Vibe Workflow when you need a visual way to assemble generative image or video workflows and want either a hosted browser experience or a self-hosted application.

Who it is for

  • Creators building repeatable image or video generation workflows.
  • Studios assembling pipelines for producing variations of creative assets.
  • Developers who want to self-host a visual workflow editor or use the hosted version's documented API and embed support.

Documented uses

  • Arrange modular nodes into a visual generative image pipeline.
  • Compose workflows for AI image editing and video generation.
  • Configure a local deployment or use the hosted browser version.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

The repository is public and lists an MIT license. A hosted browser version is documented at muapi.ai/workflow. Self-hosted generation requires a MuAPI API key.

  • The workflow editor is distinct from the model backend: the documented generative AI connection is MuAPI.
  • Local development uses Node.js 20+, Python 3.10+ and npm 7+; the Docker route lists Docker 20+ and Compose 2+.
  • The documented stack uses a Next.js frontend and FastAPI backend.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Start the self-hosted app with Docker Compose

Configure the documented Docker setup and start the Vibe Workflow services.

Before you start

  • Docker 20 or later
  • Docker Compose 2 or later
  • A MuAPI API key

Steps

  1. Copy the example environment file to .env.

  2. Add your MuAPI key to .env as MU_API_KEY.

  3. Run docker compose up --build.

  4. Open the frontend at http://localhost:3000; the backend API is listed at http://localhost:8000.

Expected outcome

The documented setup starts the frontend and backend services, with the frontend at localhost:3000.

Guide limitations

  • This setup uses MuAPI for generative AI capabilities and requires its API key.
