Treat Toolbox

Treat Toolbox is an open-source, web-based utility for managing generative-art NFT projects. It combines layered PNGs associated with user-defined traits and rarity values to create artwork and metadata pairs for use with Metaplex Candy Machine, with a workflow designed to be usable by non-technical team members.

Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it during generative collection preparation when artwork layers, trait and rarity definitions, and Candy Machine-oriented exports need to be managed together.

Who it is for

  • Artists preparing layered artwork for a generative NFT collection
  • Project teams defining traits and rarity values
  • Solana collection creators preparing PNG-and-JSON assets for Metaplex Candy Machine

Documented uses

  • Organize image layers, traits and trait values for a generative-art project.
  • Set rarities and generate collection compositions while avoiding duplicates and known artwork conflicts.
  • Export artwork and metadata as PNG-and-JSON pairs for Candy Machine setup.

Requirements & limits

The project documentation describes a locally run web app using Firebase emulators; it lists npm, Node.js v14 and a Java runtime as prerequisites.

  • The documented export is PNG artwork paired with JSON metadata for Metaplex Candy Machine.
  • The current documented operating model requires local setup and Firebase emulators.
  • The repository identifies the software as open source under the AGPL-3.0 license.
  • The README describes error reporting as limited.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Set up Treat Toolbox locally

Configure Firebase emulators and start the local Treat Toolbox web app.

Before you start

  • npm, Node.js v14 and a Java runtime
  • Firebase CLI and a Firebase project with Firestore, Functions and Storage configured
  • The Treat Toolbox repository checked out locally

Steps

  1. Register a Firebase web app and put its provided configuration values in the repository’s .env file.

  2. Run firebase login, then firebase init in the repository root; select Firestore, Functions, Storage and Emulators, preserving the existing configuration files as directed in the README.

  3. Install the Functions dependencies and start the emulators with npm install --prefix=functions and npm run serve --prefix=functions.

  4. Copy the local Functions API URL printed by the emulator into NEXT_PUBLIC_FIREBASE_FUNCTIONS_API_ENDPOINT in .env.

  5. In a separate terminal, run npm install and npm run dev from the repository root, then open http://localhost:3000.

Expected outcome

The local web app opens in a browser while Firebase emulator services provide its backing data and file storage.

Guide limitations

  • This is a local setup, not a hosted deployment.
  • The README says robust error reporting is lacking; troubleshooting may involve checking the emulator and frontend terminals or the browser console.
  • Firebase setup and configuration are required before starting the app.
