Practical overview

When it fits

Use it as a code starting point when developing a marketplace and you want documented support for multiple collections, networks, and custom-currency listings.

Who it is for

  • Developers creating a custom NFT marketplace with thirdweb SDKs.
  • Teams that need to configure marketplace support across multiple collections or networks.

Documented uses

  • Start a marketplace project from a repository template and run it locally.
  • Configure chains and MarketplaceV3 contract addresses for a marketplace.
  • Build a marketplace with listings that can use custom payment currencies.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

  • Local setup requires a thirdweb client ID in .env.local and allowed-domain configuration.
  • Each network added requires a MarketplaceV3 contract deployment as well as project configuration.
  • The README provides local development commands but does not describe production deployment.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Set up the marketplace template locally

Prepare the repository and start the template in a local development environment.

Before you start

  • A cloned or forked marketplace-template repository.
  • npm, Yarn or pnpm for dependency installation.
  • A thirdweb client ID and allowed-domain configuration.

Steps

  1. Clone the repository or fork it.

  2. Install dependencies using npm install, yarn, or pnpm install.

  3. Create a root-level .env.local file and set NEXT_PUBLIC_TW_CLIENT_ID to your thirdweb client ID; configure allowed domains for that ID.

  4. Start the local development server with npm run dev, yarn dev, or pnpm dev.

Expected outcome

The template is set up to run locally for development.

Guide limitations

  • These instructions cover local development, not production deployment.
  • The repository README section provided does not document a complete deployment workflow.

Configure a network for the marketplace

Add a network to the marketplace configuration and associate it with a MarketplaceV3 contract.

Before you start

  • A MarketplaceV3 contract deployed on the network to be added.
  • Access to the project’s chain and marketplace contract configuration files.

Steps

  1. Add the chain to the export array in ./src/consts/chains.ts; the README shows importing chains from thirdweb/chains and describes defining a custom chain with defineChain when needed.

  2. Add the MarketplaceV3 contract address and its corresponding chain to the marketplace contract configuration file.

Expected outcome

The project configuration contains the chain and the associated marketplace contract information.

Guide limitations

  • A MarketplaceV3 contract must be deployed separately on each network being configured.
