Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when a Streamlit app needs an interface for viewing spaCy model outputs, rather than implementing each visualization from scratch.
Who it is for
- Developers building interactive NLP applications with Streamlit and spaCy.
- Teams preparing demonstrations or inspection interfaces for spaCy models.
Documented uses
- Display dependency parses and named entities for text analyzed by a spaCy model.
- Show text-classification, semantic-similarity, or token-attribute results in a Streamlit app.
- Embed a complete visualizer or combine selected components with other Streamlit elements.
Requirements & limits
The public GitHub repository identifies the package as MIT-licensed open-source software.
- The app needs Python, Streamlit, and loadable spaCy models.
- The combined visualizer can be configured with selected views; individual components can also be used separately.
- The API accepts model package names or paths and supports settings for views, entity labels, token attributes, and similarity comparison texts.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up a basic spaCy visualizer in Streamlit
Prepare a small Streamlit app that calls the package’s combined visualizer.
Before you start
- Python
- The spacy-streamlit package
- A spaCy English model, such as en_core_web_sm
- A Python app file
Steps
Install the package with the command below.
pip install spacy-streamlitDownload the English model with the command below.
python -m spacy download en_core_web_smCreate a Python file that imports
spacy_streamlit, defines the model name and default text, and callsspacy_streamlit.visualize(models, default_text).Start the app with
streamlit run streamlit_app.py.
Expected outcome
A Streamlit app that embeds the spaCy visualizer for the selected model and default text.
Guide limitations
- The example uses an English model; the guide does not specify setup for other models.
- The README setup instructions do not establish deployment configuration.
