Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it when building Solana functionality into a Go application and you need library-level RPC, transaction, transfer or token-creation support.

Who it is for

  • Go developers building applications that interact with Solana.
  • Developers implementing SOL or token transfers, transaction signing, token metadata or token creation.

Documented uses

  • Call Solana RPC methods from Go application code.
  • Retrieve a SOL balance or parse SOL and token transfers.
  • Create and sign transactions, including transfers of SOL, SPL tokens and Token-2022 tokens.
  • Create tokens with metadata and work with documented Token-2022 extensions.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

The repository is public and identifies the project as MIT-licensed.

  • The library is written in Go and targets applications using the Solana network.
  • The README documents a Devnet connection example, while real transaction workflows require application code and a configured connection.
  • The README lists support for Token-2022 extensions including interest-bearing mints, metadata pointers, permanent delegates and non-transferable tokens.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Connect a Go application to Solana Devnet

Create a Devnet connection and make a rent-exemption balance query using the library.

Before you start

  • The Solana Web3 Go library installed in the application.

Steps

  1. Import github.com/donutnomad/solana-web3/web3.

  2. Create a client with web3.NewConnection(web3.Devnet.Url(), &web3.ConnectionConfig{Commitment: &web3.CommitmentConfirmed}).

  3. Check the returned error, then call client.GetMinimumBalanceForRentExemption(0, nil) and check its error.

Expected outcome

The code example establishes a Devnet client and retrieves a minimum balance for rent exemption for the supplied size of zero.

Guide limitations

  • The example does not provide a complete standalone application or show output from running it.
  • The documented transfer code references values such as owner, recipient, mint, amount, and commitment without defining them in the example.
