Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when developing an Unreal Engine 5 game and you need a documented route to Solana functionality, either from the game client or through server-mediated signing examples.
Who it is for
- Unreal Engine developers building games that interact with Solana.
- Teams creating multiplayer or MMO-style games that need client and server integration.
- Developers adding wallet, NFT minting or payment-related flows to an Unreal game.
Documented uses
- Connect an Unreal game to Solana through Unreal SOLNET and Blueprint or C++.
- Set up a level Blueprint flow that initializes a chain client and invokes it from game-world events.
- Add or extend LinkStream request handling for game-specific chain operations.
- Use server-side REST API request samples for player-signing flows in supported game-template scenarios.
- Use the toolkit's wallet, NFT minting and payment examples as building blocks for game features.
Requirements & limits
The project is a public GitHub repository and is licensed under MIT.
- Direct client integration uses Unreal SOLNET with a LinkStream Blueprint; the documented REST API route instead lets a game server request player signing without running Unreal SOLNET on the client.
- The README identifies Unreal SOLNET and a LinkStream wrapper as required for fully on-chain games.
- The REST API examples are described for mobile, HTML5, consoles and HoloLens 2, while the README also notes universal platform support when using the REST API.
- The toolkit uses SOL.NET and the .NET runtime to communicate with Solana from the Unreal game.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up the LinkStream-to-chain-client flow
Connect an Unreal level to Unreal SOLNET using the documented Blueprint setup.
Before you start
- An Unreal Engine 5 game project with the Solana SDK plugin content available.
- Access to the plugin's Solana SDK Blueprints.
Steps
Add a LinkStream Blueprint from Plugins -> Solana SDK Content -> Blueprints to the game level.
In the level Blueprint, create a sequence that initializes the chain client first.
Create custom events to connect to Unreal SOLNET, then bind world-object events to invoke the chain client.
Expected outcome
The level has a documented Blueprint path for communicating with Unreal SOLNET and invoking the chain client.
Guide limitations
- The README recommends creating a custom wrapper suited to the game's needs.
- The sandbox map and source code are suggested for more in-depth setup; these steps do not cover building or running a complete game.
Extend the LinkStream request wrapper
Add request handling to the existing LinkStream wrapper and align its Blueprint request identifiers.
Before you start
- The SolanaKit source located in the plugin's Solana SDK content.
- A workspace outside the plugin folder for the moved source.
Steps
Move the SolanaKit source to a location outside the plugin folder.
Open the project and edit the HandleRequestEvent method in GameRuntime.cs to add the required request handling.
Update the request IDs and Methods list ENUM Blueprints in the plugin Blueprints folder to match the wrapper.
Expected outcome
The wrapper's request handling and Blueprint request identifiers are aligned for the added requests.
Guide limitations
- This is advanced customization; the README does not provide a complete implementation for a particular game.
- The documented example concerns adding on-chain transaction requests for a PvP RTS.
