Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when a Solana program workflow benefits from browser access or when you need a documented local setup for developing, deploying, and testing Solana programs.
Who it is for
- Solana developers
- Rust developers working with Solana programs
- Developers exploring Anchor-based Solana development
Documented uses
- Create Solana programs in a browser-based environment
- Deploy Solana programs
- Test Solana programs
- Set up the project locally with documented client, server, or Docker workflows
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and documents browser access through beta.solpg.io. It also provides local client and server setup instructions and Docker Compose workflows. No pricing or account requirement is documented here.
- Browser-based workflow for Solana program development
- Support for Rust-oriented development
- Documented compatibility with selected Anchor, Solana, SPL, Metaplex, and oracle-related crates
- Local setup options for client, server, and Docker Compose workflows
- Beta status means the project is subject to change
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up Solana Playground locally with Docker Compose
Run the documented Solana Playground client and server components locally.
Before you start
- Docker
- A platform able to run Linux/amd64 containers
- A copied and customized .env file based on .env.example
Steps
Copy .env.example to .env and customize the environment variables.
Run the documented Docker Compose development or production profile with the build option.
Use the documented local client or server address for the component you started.
Stop the services with Docker Compose when finished; remove the database volume separately if required.
Expected outcome
A locally running Solana Playground component or stack using the repository's Docker Compose configuration.
Guide limitations
- The documentation states that all services run as linux/amd64 containers.
- The project documentation marks Playground as beta and says everything is subject to change.
- The guide documents local startup, not the successful deployment or testing of a specific Solana program.
