Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when you want Cline to request supported Solana blockchain information through an MCP server and an RPC endpoint.
Who it is for
- Cline users who want to ask natural-language questions about Solana RPC data.
- Developers configuring an MCP server with a chosen Solana RPC endpoint.
Documented uses
- Check an address’s SOL or SPL token balance.
- Retrieve account, token-account, block or transaction information.
- Ask for current network details such as slot, epoch, node health, supply or inflation.
- Inspect vote accounts and leader schedules.
Requirements & limits
- The documented Cline configuration starts the server with Cargo and requires a local repository path.
- SOLANA_RPC_URL is configurable and defaults to https://api.mainnet-beta.solana.com.
- The documented functions query blockchain information; transaction signing and wallet management are not listed.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Configure Solana MCP Server in Cline
Add the server to Cline’s MCP settings and choose the Solana RPC endpoint it will use.
Before you start
- Rust and Cargo
- A local copy of the solana-mcp-server repository
- Cline and access to its MCP settings file
Steps
Add an mcpServers entry named solana to the Cline MCP settings, using cargo as the command and run as its argument.
Set cwd to the local repository path.
Set SOLANA_RPC_URL to the preferred Solana RPC endpoint, or leave it unspecified to use the documented default.
Restart Cline to load the MCP server.
Expected outcome
Cline is configured to load the server and route supported Solana RPC queries through it.
Guide limitations
- The README documents this setup for Cline; it does not provide setup instructions for other clients.
