Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when starting a Solana mobile app and you want a React Native foundation with documented wallet, swap, launchpad and related integrations.
Who it is for
- React Native developers building Solana mobile applications
- Solana developers who want a mobile app scaffold with protocol integrations
Documented uses
- Create a mobile app that connects embedded or external wallets.
- Build swap or token-launch workflows using listed Solana integrations.
- Develop apps that combine token data, NFT features or social components.
Requirements & limits
The project is open source under the Apache-2.0 license. The documented setup uses Node.js and platform-specific mobile development tools.
- The project includes both a React Native mobile application and a separate backend server.
- Integrations can require provider-specific credentials and environment variables.
- On/off-ramp integrations with MoonPay and Mercuryo are identified as work in progress.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up the mobile app for development
Prepare the repository and platform prerequisites, then start the app in development mode.
Before you start
- Node.js 18 or later
- pnpm, yarn or npm
- Expo CLI
- Xcode and CocoaPods for iOS, or Android Studio, Android SDK and JDK for Android
- A configured .env.local file with the environment variables required for the chosen integrations
Steps
Clone the solana-app-kit repository and change into its directory.
Install dependencies with pnpm install.
Create the root .env.local file and configure the needed environment variables.
Start development mode with pnpm dev or npm run dev.
Run on iOS with npx expo run:ios or Android with npx expo run:android.
Expected outcome
The README describes a development-mode React Native app that can be launched for an iOS or Android target.
Guide limitations
- Integration credentials and environment values must be supplied for the services used.
- The repository also has a separate backend server setup; this recipe covers the mobile app setup only.
Compare options for Wallet connections
These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
