Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when the goal is to study or configure a Bybit-focused market-making strategy and the user can manage Python setup, exchange API credentials and trading parameters.
Who it is for
- Python developers learning how exchange market-making strategies are structured.
- Crypto traders configuring a Bybit quoting experiment.
- Users who want to try the documented strategy through Bybit Testnet.
Documented uses
- Study a simple exchange market-making strategy.
- Configure quote prices, order sizes, spreads and inventory limits.
- Use Bybit market data, with optional Binance data for selected pricing features.
- Try the strategy against Bybit Testnet before considering live exchange credentials.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and MIT-licensed. The README documents a Bybit Unified Trading Account and Bybit API credentials for setup; it also describes a Bybit Testnet route for users who do not want to start with real money.
- Bybit is the primary exchange documented by the project.
- Binance can be selected as an additional primary data feed when the relevant symbol trades on Binance USD-M.
- The strategy uses Bollinger Band Width from one-minute candle closes to define a volatility range.
- Inventory settings can stop quoting the opposite side and switch to reduce-only behavior at the configured threshold.
- The project is presented for learning and carries explicit loss and profitability warnings.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up Smm for a Bybit market-making experiment
Prepare the Python project, exchange credentials and trading parameters for a documented Bybit run.
Before you start
- A Linux, Windows or macOS environment with Python tooling and terminal access.
- A Bybit Unified Trading Account.
- Bybit API key and secret.
- A copied environment file and configured parameters file.
- For a non-live experiment, a Bybit Testnet account and the TESTNET setting.
Steps
Clone the repository and change into its project directory.
Copy .env.example to .env, then add the Bybit API key and secret. Set TESTNET=True when using Bybit Testnet.
Install the package requirements with pip install -r requirements.txt.
Copy parameters.yaml.example to parameters.yaml and configure the market, quote, inventory and volatility settings.
Start the module with python3 -m main.
Expected outcome
The project is configured to start its documented Bybit market-making process, with the option to use Bybit Testnet.
Guide limitations
- The README describes the project as learning-oriented and warns that it is highly unlikely to produce profits.
- Live use involves capital and exchange API credentials.
- The README notes a possible SSL certificate-verification issue on macOS.
- The supplied documentation does not establish successful execution or compatibility on a particular machine.
